Our focus this year will be on how envisioning, how imagining, can make connections, change perspectives, and create change.
“Imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not, and, therefore, the foundation of all invention and innovation. In its arguably most transformative and revelatory capacity, it is the power that enables us to empathize with humans whose experiences we have never shared.” ― J.K. Rowling “Imagination has brought mankind through the Dark Ages to its present state of civilization. Imagination led Columbus to discover America. Imagination led Franklin to discover electricity. Imagination has given us the steam engine, the telephone, the talking-machine and the automobile, for these things had to be dreamed of before they became realities. So I believe that dreams - day dreams, you know, with your eyes wide open and your brain-machinery whizzing - are likely to lead to the betterment of the world. The imaginative child will become the imaginative man or woman most apt to create, to invent, and therefore to foster civilization.” ― L. Frank Baum, The Lost Princess of Oz In this 21st century, we, especially the children, are faced with big questions, big issues and a vast landscape of world wide change, politically, environmentally, socially, and technologically. It is filled with new challenges, both exciting and demanding. Art making, creating, and thinking is critical to allowing our children to be great citizens of the world, to envision, to imbue empathy and create the changes that they will face! Our residencies will touch upon all the strands of art along with their daily diet of visual art. This will be an exciting year! |
